Chapters One and Two Summary and Analysis
In Chapter One, Damien begins his story as a biography, telling where and when he was born as well as his parents' names. Although he was born in West Memphis, Arkansa, he was always jealous of his sister who was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He is born in December and his mother is fascinated with the idea that the hospital employees put him in a stocking for her to bring him home. Although Damien writes that since that time he has learned this was nothing unusual but his mother still clings to the idea it was unique. He points to this as proof of her habit of denial.
