Summary

Chapter 1 – 16 year-old Jacob Portman and his friends, Emma Bloom and Addison MacHenry, face down a Hollow, short for Hollowgast. Hollows are twisted and evil peculiars who feed on the souls of peculiars like Jacob, Emma, and Addison. Jacob has the power of detecting and controlling Hollows, Emma can summon fire with her fingers, and Addison has an incredible sense of smell. Jacob is able to subdue the Hollow, but they know more will be coming. The dark forces of Caul have attacked Miss Wren’s frozen hideout, kidnapping many. Jacob, Emma, and Addison know they must go and help their friends. They head into the train tunnels beneath the hideout where they find an injured Sergei, who has been recruiting peculiars to help track down his family. He asks to be left to die, but Jacob brings Sergei along. They are confronted by two...
