Summary

In "Real love knows no danger," on the ship to Haiti, Libertie and Emmanuel had a private cabin because the "captain knew Emmanuel's father" (205). When Libertie waved goodbye to her friends and family, she told herself to celebrate instead of crying (205).

Libertie grew seasick. She closed herself in the cabin. Emmanuel urged her to leave the room and face her fear.

One night, he came into the room and "traced a botany lesson" on Libertie's bare skin (206). Then he touched himself. Libertie was surprised by this experience. She knew little about male anatomy.
