Summary
In "Tell me what you love and I will tell you who you are," Libertie traveled back east with Louisa and Experience. They stopped in Philadelphia to see Madame Elizabeth. During their visit, Libertie and Elizabeth talked about Emmanuel. Elizabeth thought Libertie was "too old to be jealous" of someone she had never met (154). They also talked about Ben and Daisy, love and duty.
When Libertie was ready for bed, she tried entering the room she was meant to share with her friends. She heard "someone on the other side of the door gasp" (156). Realizing that something intimate she did not understand was happening inside the locked room, Libertie felt lonely. She was desperate to understand not what her friends were doing, "but what they were feeling" (157). She felt perpetually locked out...
