Summary

In "Not all wounds heal," ever since seeing her mother resurrect a man, Libertie believed her mother, Cathy, "was magic" (3). Cathy was a doctor and her nurse was Lenore. At dusk one spring night, a coffin arrived at their home. They had inherited the house from Cathy’s Grandfather, who "had made his money raising pigs" (4). The property "was set back" from the road (4). The cart with the coffin moved slowly up the road. Madame Elizabeth and Lucien drove the cart. Cathy scolded them for being early.

When they opened the coffin, Libertie was surprised by the sight of the dead man, Mr. Ben. Elizabeth explained what had happened. She was trying to smuggle Ben up north to freedom, but the man had gotten scared and run away. When they found him, he was drunk. To keep him quiet, they soaked...
