Point of View
Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st Century features 12 distinct short stories, each with a different point of view, but the majority are narrated in third person limited and in past tense. The first story, “Pre-Simulation Consultation XF007867” is the only story without a definitive point of view, as it unfolds entirely as a dialogue between the operator of a virtual reality simulation and a customer who has purchased a simulation.
“Time Cubes,” “Sandman,” “#ClimbingNation,” and “Bridezilla” are narrated in third person limited from the perspective of a woman who is dissatisfied with aspects of her life and relationships. “Time Cubes” and “Bridezilla” both feature women reexamining their goals and romantic relationships as a result of living through a dystopian scenario.
