Summary
In “Bridezilla,” a couple named Arthur and Leah ate breakfast in a diner and saw a news report about a sea monster spotted off the coast of Hawaii. Scientists explained that it was actually “an amalgamation of brainless multicellular organisms” (183). Arthur suggested to Leah that they get married. He did not want to do this, but he thought it was important to her. All of their friends believed marriage was an “unnecessary, patriarchal institution” (184), despite some of them being married themselves. Leah used to want a traditional marriage and family, but she now wondered if it was immoral to have children, seemingly because of climate change. Arthur suggested they have the wedding on a cruise ship and Leah agreed, even though she found the idea disappointing. The night of the wedding, Leah felt increasingly anxious on the ship.
