Immaculee and her friends arrived safely at the RPF roadblock but were treated with disdain. The RPF found it difficult to believe that the Tutsis had survived and questioned them as if they were Hutu spies. Eventually Immaculee was recognized by her friend, Bazil, who was an RPF soldier. They were then accepted and a rescue party was sent to retrieve Aloise and the others. Surrounded by fellow Tutsis and finally safe from harm, Immaculee wondered how to rebuild her life. She had no family, no job, no money, and worst of all no prospects for a future; but she had her faith, the clothes on her back, and her father's rosary. She prayed.
