Summary
In Chapter 40, Alice writes that even before she left the hospital the night of Nevvie’s death she knew she had miscarried her baby. She stays busy, trying to ignore her grief, but knows she’s destroying herself. She thinks about Jenna all the time. She knows Thomas is in an institution and that Gideon died in the war in Iraq. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. She has one remnant of her life in America. It is a club created by Maura. Alice bought the club online during a fundraiser shortly after Maura died.
