Summary
Jenna debunks the myth that there is an elephant graveyard. Her mother could have told her the scientific evidence against the myth, she says. She wishes that there was such a thing, but not just for elephants, so she’d be able to find her mother.
Alice remembers being obsessed with elephants even as a nine-year-old girl. One Saturday morning, her mother took her to Springfield, Massachusetts to see an elephant. The elephant, Morganetta, was not what Alice imagined. She and her mother were both stunned to see the elephant was chained to a concrete block with sores on her hind legs because of the shackles she was wearing. On the way home, Alice decided to become an elephant advocate. She wrote to the mayor of Springfield asking him to give Morganetta more room in her enclosure. The mayor did so...
