Anja Blomgren
Anja’s narrative provides one of two alternating character perspectives in the novel. Anja Blomgren originates from Sweden, having left her hometown of Malmö with her mother Bitte at the age of 17. Frank and Tenn see promise in beautiful, intelligent, and cool-tempered Anja as an actress. Through their connections, Anja becomes acquainted with up-and-coming director Martin Hovland, who launches her illustrious career as film actress Anja Bloom. Anja’s past narrative alternates between her time in Italy with Frank and Tenn, and her current situation in New York after settling down with her partner Pieter Meisner, who is now deceased. Anja lives a solitary life in a wealthy neighborhood, now in her early 60’s and retired from film for the past 25 years. As an older woman, Anja describes herself as being reserved, imperious, and possessing wanderlust over the next place she will live.
