Summary
In "Arrangements," the night after dinner at Fontanone restaurant, Jack Burns sends a telegram to Frank. He has a fever and is paranoid of Sandro; when Frank calls, Jack does not let Frank speak to Sandro. Frank is “torn by his distaste for Jack and his natural instinct” to help Sandro, as he owes the doctor for having tended to the group after Testa del Lupo (234). Their home in Marina di Cecina is a three hour drive away. Before Frank leaves, Tenn tells him that a part has been written for him in Senso, pending Visconti’s approval.
Frank arrives in Marina di Cecina to find Jack tending to his garden with Sandro relaxing nearby. Sandro says that Jack is feeling better after “a big little scare” (240). Jack asks Frank to take him to a hospital in Rome while Sandro is asleep. Sandro explains...
