Love
Through the relationship of Leeds and Layla, the novel demonstrates how far people are willing to go for the people they love.
The opening of the novel shows Layla and Leeds sharing a physical connection, but it quickly evolves into love. They share each other’s company so frequently in the beginning that they decide to move into together. Then, tragedy strikes when Layla and Leeds are shot by Sable. It is plausible that Layla’s recovery from her head wound would be too much for Leeds to handle, threatening their relationship. However, it is not Layla’s recovery that puts Leeds and Layla’s love to the test.
