Summary

Mike feels guilty about wanting to work for Piggot after everything Doug has done for him. He still plans to go to the party but cannot find anything to wear that does not make him embarrassed.

At the party, Piggot introduces Mike to a young woman named Kaitlin. They talk about poetry and publishing, but every guest that Mike speaks to asks him whether he has been published before their conversations really get underway.

When Mike tells Doug that he turned down the higher paying job to stay loyal to him, Doug persuades him to rethink the offer. He explains to Mike that he needs to think first of himself if he is ever going to be successful.
