Laurentum
Laurentum is a city in Latium along the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is important for its proximity to the mouth of the Tiber River, where Latinus and the Latins have control over the salt fields. The salt from the mouth of the Tiber is one of their main exports for trading with other regions. The city features high walls around it, and contrary to other cities it is not built on a hill. The city is surrounded by fields and farms. The interior of the city is notable for its many trees and the shade that these afford its citizens.
Laurentum is the main setting for the events of the novel leading up to the death of Turnus, and Lavinia's move to Lavinium. The battle against the Trojans takes place predominately outside the walls of Laurentum.
