Summary
When Lavinia returns from the salt beds, she finds that word has spread about the oracle spoken to Latinus, and the arrival of foreign ships on the Tiber. Lavinia convinces Silvia to go with her to spy on the newly arrived Trojans. Among the Trojan camp, Lavinia recognizes her husband. They witness the Trojans eating a meal, and the utterance of one Trojan signals to Aeneas the fulfillment of a prophecy signifying that they have landed on the lands promised to them.
After Lavinia returns home, she discovers that her father issued a decree that nobody should approach the Trojans, and that he plans to send Drances as an envoy to the foreigners. However, before Drances can be sent, a group of Trojans arrive at Laurentum themselves, although without Aeneas. One of the Trojans, Ilioneus, tells Latinus about their adventures at sea following...
