The Journey Begins

Set in 1757 during the third year of the French and Indian War, the novel opens as Cora and Alice Munro are being escorted to Fort William Henry where they will meet up with the commander of the fort - their father, Colonel Munro. The two women are accompanied by Major Duncan Heyward, a gallant young officer who soon falls in love with Alice, and David Gamut, a ridiculous traveling psalm singer and music teacher.
