Summary
In Chapter 13, on the day Grace learned about the planet’s formation, Anna “had a birthday party for the Earth” (107). The next day, Edgar substituted for Anna because she had not slept. He used “the home-school books” Jonathan had bought (109). When Anna heard him scolding Grace for writing a paper about “the wolf girls,” she shooed him away (112).
In Chapter 14, Anna told Grace everything happened by chance, including life itself. Meeting Jonathan was lucky, too.
In October, Grace learned about rocks. Anna told her about a city in Africa called “the City of Death,” which was made of diamonds (115). After Jonathan scolded Anna for keeping Grace up too late, she gave him her “variation of the silence game” (116). She would only communicate with him by circling words in his newspaper. The fight ended when he bought Anna her favorite milk.
