Summary

In Chapter 17, when they enter the room, they see Whiting, Feeley's assistant and, of course, Dean Wojenski. The dean confirms the blackmailing plot is his and that Jurgenson was just a lead to throw Chip, Stevie and Susan Carol off the trail. The dean says he's going to hold the kids hostage until after the game to ensure Chip does what he's supposed to do to throw the game. They wrap duct tape around Stevie and Susab Carol's wrists and ankles. Chip leaves for the game. By eight o'clock, they're watching the game on TV when someone knocks on the door. When Gary, Feeley's assistant opens it, a man pushes Gary down, beats him up and takes away his gun. The man identifies himself as Steve Jurgenson as he cuts off the tape from the kids' hands and ankles.
