Chapter 16- 20 Summary
Chapter Sixteen
Yakov returns to the village and tells Mack that Alekhin is looking for him, but Mack already knows about Alekhin. Mack has always known that Alekhin would be the one he would have to outsmart. Alekhin will be harder to hide from because he thinks like an Indian. Mack wonders if Alekhin does not already know where he is heading and will be there waiting for him. Sometime later Mack meets Natalya in the woods and she tells him about a meeting the people of the village have had concerning letting him stay in the village. Peshkov wants Mack to leave, but most of the village wants him to stay because of the meat he provides to them. She tells Mack that the people have decided he can stay for now.
