Lily Hu
Lily Hu is the protagonist of the novel, which is narrated in the third person from her point of view. Lily is a teenage girl who has grown up with her Chinese American family in San Francisco, and who has begun to realize that she is attracted to other girls and women. She begins to explore this attraction through her friendship with Kathleen Miller, a girl she knows from school who seems to understand Lily’s feelings, and the Telegraph Club, a bar and performance venue for queer women where Kathleen takes her.
