Summary

Part VI takes place in January of 1955. Chapter 39 opens the morning after the club was raided. Lily noticed that there was a headline in the newspaper about the club. When Lily’s mother went out to run errands, Lily tried to call Kath, but there was no answer. The article mentioned that Tommy and the club owner had been arrested. Lily tried calling Kath’s number again, and when she received no answer, looked up her address in the phone book. Shirley arrived to tell Lily that a friend of Calvin’s had seen Lily at the club but that she had told them it was a mistake. She also said that Kath had been arrested.
