Chapters 8-9 Summary

Leia is nursing the twins when Han enters the suite and tells of Lando's difficulties with Admiral Drayson. Winter is researching the archives, hoping to prove her suspicion about Delta Source, whom she will not name without proof. Leia infers that Winter means Mara and goes to confront Mara. Mara is near panic as she watches in a dream the Emperor battling Vader and Luke for his life. Unable to help the Emperor, Mara snaps awake, angry and lonely. When Leia knocks, Mara is surprised. Mara announces she intends to kill Luke for ending her comfortable life as the "Emperor's Hand." Leia argues that this is not Mara's own idea. Near Endor both have sensed the late Emperor's "emotional bloodstain." Mara is frustrated that she cannot contact Karrde, her partner, and leave the planet.

After midnight, Mara senses trouble and peers...
