Summary
The police contract a psychologist, who meets with Robert and Jolie and explains some theories about Lanny’s disappearance. Jolie becomes highly irritated and angry, and she begins to yell at the psychologist. Robert begins to feel that, since people are unable to solve Lanny’s disappearance, Robert can relate to them on the matter of Lanny’s innately enigmatic qualities. Search parties continue to look for Lanny but do not find him. One day, searchers find pieces of paper in the woods with Lanny’s handwriting on them. The papers contain strange verses that make references to nature without asserting any clear or direct meaning. Some people begin to wonder if Lanny ran away on his own. Jolie and Robert sit together, reading the letters over and over. Robert has not been to work in a few weeks, and he finds himself missing...
