Salman Rushdie
Salman Rushdie is the author of all 38 essays collected in Languages of Truth. Rushdie is a renowned literary figure, most well known for his works of fiction. Although the majority of the essays in the collection are neither lyric nor personal, Rushdie does allow scenes and anecdotes from his personal life to spill onto the page. This is particularly true in the essay “Another Writer’s Beginnings,” throughout which Rushdie talks “about [his] own start in the writing game” (62). In this work, Rushdie describes his childhood growing up in Bombay India with parents “who didn’t read many novels” (63).
