Narrator
The first person narrator of the novel remains unnamed throughout. She is also the main character of Land of Milk and Honey. At the start of Chapter 1, the narrator is 29 years old. Although she grew up in Los Angeles, California, she is living in England. After the United States closed its borders, she found herself trapped thousands of miles from her home. Over time, the narrator becomes increasingly disillusioned with her circumstances. The accelerating global food crisis and worsening smog has only augmented her feelings of displacement and discouragement.
Desperate to start her life over or to remake herself, the narrator accepts a chef job in a remote mountain community. Although she does not even know the name of the mountain or the country that exists there, she abandons her life in England. She is hopeful that this place and this new position will expand her life once...
