Farms

The farms so many of the characters grew up on symbolize the beauty of new growth and life as well as the power of patience. The characters are often impatient with the speed at which their crops grow until their elders teach them that the crops will grow steadily and flourish at their own rate if dutifully attended.

Keju

Keju serves as an example for the importance of forgiveness. Even though Keju deceived and abused Bayi, Bayi decides to be understanding of Keju's circumstances and the difficulties he has faced in his life. While she rejects his offer to rekindle their relationship, she does wish him well in his future endeavors. She trusts that the memory of shame and the desire to live better in the future will be enough to steer Keju.
