China

The main setting of all of the short stories is mainland China and the inter-generational families that migrate within and outside of the country. The characters are proud of their Chinese heritage which is shown in their food, style of dress, and language.

United States

Many of the characters also have an investment in the United States whether through their own migration or the migration of a family member. They come to the U.S. for enhanced opportunities or to escape their lives in China.
