Summary
In Part II, "June 1966," the Star's top editor, Mr. Marshall, calls Maddie into his office. Two detectives checked the power outage she reported, and found a body in the fountain. Maddie says she does not have the query any longer. Mr. Marshall dismisses her as soon as the detectives leave, excluding her from the remainder of the meeting. Later, Maddie learns the body was Cleo, a cocktail waitress who disappeared months prior. Mr. Marshall questions her about being involved in the discovery of two bodies. Maddie rushes to the bathroom where she encounters a famous reporter Edna Sperry. Edna is unsympathetic, criticizing Maddie's reporting techniques.
