The Los Angeles Institute

This is where the Shadowhunters of Los Angeles, including Emma, live and work. There are extensive descriptions of the large building, which was “built to impress” (38). The descriptions include the image of the Angle Raziel in a scene built into the floor and visible from the landing above. In this image, Raziel is holding a cup and sword, which are two of the Mortal Instruments that are part of the history of the Shadowhunters. The building is home to the Blacktorn family and to any Shadowhunter who wishes to live there for any period of time. Emma also lives in the Los Angeles Institute and Kit moves in after his father is killed.
