My First Tooth Summary
The narrator, named Sazonov, is a prisoner who is marching in a column of prisoners in the Urals. Sherbakov is the chief of the guards and watches the prisoners carefully. The column stops in a church basement where the men are nearly suffocated. The next day the men sleep at some peasant huts for the night. A tall man, Peter Zayats, is beaten by the guards for not standing at attention for roll call, before the men turn in for the night. The narrator steps out and objects to the beating, to the shock of Sherbakov. The narrator goes to sleep in a hut, but is awakened and made to stand outside in the cold, naked.
