Summary

In Chapter 13, Miller recalls the 2018 trial of Larry Nassar, the doctor convicted of assaulting 250 girls and young women while working for USA Gymnastics. She praises the judge in the case, Rosemarie Aquilina, for allowing each victim to give a statement about their experience, never rushing a single one. She then recalls her own long personal history with Stanford University—she was born in the university's hospital, attended basketball games, and took classes there. After the trial, Michele told Miller a representative of the school, whom Miller refers to throughout as “Appleseed” (297), had contacted her; the school wished to apologize to Miller and pay for her therapy. Michele also suggested the school turn the area by the dumpsters where Miller was assaulted into a park. Miller was tempted to turn down the money ($150,000), but accepted it in case her family needed...
