Summary
In the introduction, Miller establishes that she was 22 in January 2015 when she was sexually assaulted after a party on the campus of Stanford University by Brock Turner, a member of the school's swim team. She states that she will refer to Turner by his name throughout the book, but his attorney will be called “the defense” and the judge, “the judge” (vii). She has written the novel to help other victims see that they are not alone.
