Summary
In Chapter 1, Alf, the owner of Simensen Hunting and Fishing, talked to a customer about a wildlife camera while Alf’s father watched the underwater feed from a camera they had installed to track the salmon migration. Alf’s father had suffered a stroke that caused him to lose the ability to talk. He listened to the man talk about wanting to kill a bear because he had seen signs that it was hanging out around his cabin. He knew that bears, just like humans who were carnivorous, never really lost the desire to kill.
