Point of View

Each of the 11 short stories collected in Kiss Kiss is narrated from a distinct point of view. “The Landlady” is written from a third person point of view. This narrator lives most closely to Billy Weaver’s consciousness, and thus traces his unnerving journey “from London on the slow afternoon train” to the bed and breakfast in Bath (1). “William and Mary” is also written from the third person point of view. This third person narrator is largely limited to Mary’s perspective, and traces her reactions to her husband William’s death and posthumous letter. The portion of the story presented in the epistolary form, however, is written from William’s first person perspective and addressed to Mary.
