Summary
The novel starts with an introduction from Aaron Bady to introduce the reader to the book’s history and what makes it different from other books. He explains that it was published in Uganda in 2014 where the author, Makumbi, is hailed as a hero. In Europe, however, Kintu was proclaimed unpublishable as they believed white readers would not be interested in a book with such a focus on African culture. Transit Books in America accepted Kintu, but the author says it was written for Ugandians. He says they are people with complex and extended families. The book is filled with Ugandan places and names, and Kintu tells the story of a single bloodline over multiple generations.
