Summary

Chapter 28 is narrated by Mare as she and the other Guardsmen walk along the walls of Corvium. Cameron comes up next to Mare, taking her by surprise. The rain starts moving upward, indicating an attack by nymphs. Several soldiers fall and Cameron hurries back to her post down below. The rain turns to snow and the sky darkens just before Lakelander soldiers begin to run up the wall on ice bridges. Shivers reform the bridges as quickly as the Guardsmen can destroy them. Cal tells Mare that they must hold until House Laris arrives to blow away the storm, and Mare joins several soldiers below the wall to hold off Silvers breaking in.
