Point of View

The entirety of the novel is told in the first person point of view, and the vast majority of the narrative follows Arrah specifically. The reader’s understanding of the novel’s world is limited to her point of view. This means that a majority of the conflicts revolve around her internal struggles or family dynamics. The fight between Arti and the Vizier that separates Arrah from her love Rudjek. Another is Arrah’s own frustration at not having magic, which she later comes to see as curse. Arrah is the one the reader is meant to build a connection with, and the character that they are most meant to root for.
