Summary
In “March 28nd, 1919— The Garden District,” Beatrice has been sleeping and eating more, her name is no longer associated with the canal, and Hibernia has hired two other contracting firms. Giorgio appears at the front door as Beatrice is eating dinner, his head is bleeding. She has forgotten what he looked like in the weeks since they have seen each other. Beatrice is afraid of her son but cannot help but be proud of his confidence. Giorgio tells her that he, and not the cousins, was responsible for securing the land for the canal and that he had worked with Hugs to settle a problem with the books.
