Summary
Part 3 opens as the other two did, with a newspaper article. A note was sent to the newspaper, claiming to be the axman, saying he is a devil from Tartarus and that he will kill again, but because of his love of jazz, will spare all houses playing jazz at 12:15 on Tuesday night.
In “March 18th, 1919— The Industrial canal—Charity Hospital,” Charlie and Bill are at the Canal, yet another body has been found in the canal. This time there was an anonymous call, by a male, to the coroner and an arm was found sticking out of the ground. They find a leg cut cleanly, and surmise that the killer must possess extraordinary strength. Bill feels cold, even though Charlie says it is seventy degrees. Someone shouts that he has found a head.
