Summary
In “March 4, 1919—The Irish Channel,” while Bill is interviewing two grocers, one who had his ax stolen and one who had a break in, that were both suspected to have been committed by the axman, he runs into Maze. She has been in town, at her parents’ house, for four days. She says that when Bill lied to her, he lied to her about himself, and she did not know who he was anymore. Bill lies awake, thinking that his cowardice had saved his life but also ruined his life. He decided he needed to do something courageous to get back to his life, and he laughs as he realizes what exactly he needs to do.”
