Chapters 47 and 48 Summary

On Friday, Liam doesn't plan to go to school but his uncle keeps waking him up. Pete says Liam missed Eddie's ride already so Pete called Jen. When Liam gets to school, he asks Joe for a cigarette and Joe offers Liam beer to go with it. They smoke and drink a beer, skipping homeroom. Liam tells Joe he's dropping out and joining the army. Joe goes to first period, but Liam takes the cigarettes and beers to the bleachers for the rest of the day. He goes to English class, but Orlando takes him out in the hall because he smells like cigarettes and beer. They argue because Liam says Orlando planned to fail him from the start and Orlando insists that he has given Liam chance after chance that Liam has not taken.
