Summary

Back in Fjerda, Nina and Hanne find Ardik’s camp. Nina asks if Hanne is willing to learn about her powers. Hanne calls it a sin, but Nina convinces Hanne that she can live a happy life as a Grisha. When Adrik and Nina return to the convent, they find Leoni has been poisoned by the water she was testing. Nina tells them about the graves and says the dead were begging for her help, and the two are able to save Leoni.

The next morning Nina meets with the Wellmother at Hanne’s request. The Wellmother says that Hanne asked to learn Zemeni. Nina pretends that she is looking for a governess job in the country. The Wellmother agrees. Two hours later, Nina learns that Hanne’s father sent her to the convent...
