The Weylin Plantation, Nineteenth Century
The Weylin plantation is the primary setting in this novel. It is Rufus’s home, so Dana always transports to the plantation whenever Rufus faces death. Furthermore, the majority of the novel takes place in this setting, so a number of major events occur here. For example, Alice kills herself, Dana gets whipped, and Dana kills Rufus.
Dana's Apartment, Twentieth Century
Dana’s apartment is the modern day safe haven to which Dana transports whenever her own life is in danger. Over time, her apartment becomes a stopover before her return to the Weylin plantation, so she struggles to come to terms with where she actually belongs.
The Cookhouse, Nineteenth Century
