Kim Jiyoung
Kim Jiyoung is born in Seoul. Everything we know about Jiyoung is filtered through the narrator, a sexist and misogynistic therapist who does not attempt to mine the depths of Jiyoung’s feelings and emotions. Because of this, she is mostly presented as a passive participant in her own life, which moves in a certain direction without her volition.
She is her parents’ second daughter and has one older sister, Eunyoung, and one brother who is five years younger than she is. Jiyoung grows up in a small house with her family and paternal grandmother. Her mother works odd jobs until finally settling down to become a hairdresser. Jiyoung’s first memory is of trying to steal her baby brother’s formula, but her grandmother is adamant that no one should take anything from her precious grandson.
