Chapter 8 Summary

Reacher tries again to talk to Hubble, but beyond confessing that he hired the victim to investigate his situation, he isn't forthcoming. Fear is evident as he tells Reacher the knowledge is too dangerous to share. Reacher asks generic questions to determine the depth of the trouble Hubble is in, but all he learns is that there are ten people directly involved in something very big, a time limit of about one week exists after which things will be settled one way or another, and that Hubble is a crucial cog but not irreplaceable. Hubble tells Reacher that on Monday he is going to say he confessed under duress and he has nothing to do with the death of the bald man. Reacher agrees it's probably his best bet.
