Chapter 8 Summary

Shan, Crepsley and Harkat escape the prison building. They start to look for a manhole cover so they can get underground and get Crepsley, the Vampire, out of the sun. As Shan is about to put his leg down from the ladder he is climbing down into the tunnel, someone fires a gun. Shan sees it is a Vampet. The Vampet tells Shan that the Lord of the Vampaneze has them covering the manhole covers to keep Shan and his crew aboveground to suffer. Shan, Crepsely and Harkat decide to move on and the cops start following them a few minutes after they reappear aboveground. Crepsley decides that they have to get on top of the building to make better timing, so Shan goes into a store to steal a bottle of suntan lotion to protect Crepsley. As Shan is leaving the store...
