Summary

In Chapter 11, Billie, Helen, Mary Alice, and Natalie take flights to wind up in Birmingham. Thanks to Minka's papers, they have no problems. They rent a car and drive to New Orleans. They leave the car in an alley, knowing it will be gone to a chop shop within a half hour, eliminating any evidence of where they are. They are exhausted when they walk the rest of the way to a “nondescript gate” that she opens with a keypad. She leads them through a dilapidated courtyard. Minka rushes to hug Billie, saying she has been scared. She provides food. Billie reveals this building was once a convent. She bought it through a shell corporation, meaning this will serve as a safe house. The next morning, Helen is reluctant to talk in front of Minka, then tries to say she just did not...
