Friday, July 3, 1863, Chapter 2, Longstreet Summary
Goree returns with the news that the road to the right is still open, but the Union cavalry is closing in on Longstreet's flank. Lee joins Longstreet and takes Longstreet for a ride. Longstreet attempts to tell Lee about the scouts and what they have found, but Lee tells him he plans to hit the enemy in the center. Longstreet is incredulous that Lee would expect Hood's Corp to attack the same hill they could not take the day before with fewer men. Lee will not listen to Longstreet's argument and tells him to make a frontal assault. They get word that Ewell is engaged, that he was attacked by the Union troops.
