Chapters Six, Seven and Eight Summary

On October 6, Ian notes that his ratings are climbing but knows that it won't last unless he does something to continue the trend. He calls Allen McManus anonymously and suggests that the reporter find out who would benefit from Faith's popularity. Allen will much later say that he looked up the number and that the tip was made form a private cell phone assigned to Ian. Allen quickly comes to the conclusion that the person who would have something to gain would be Mariah.

In the early morning hours of October 7, Mariah wakes to find the front door open and Faith outside. She watches as Faith plays with a doll, only the doll is actually a small child. Mariah notes that there's a "wide, circular sore," below the hairline. A woman, apparently the baby's mother...
